Preserving a safe, friendly, and nostalgic IRC experience since 2004. Every user agrees to abide by these policies.
Core Principles TL;DR
Respect
Harassment, hate speech, or personal attacks are not tolerated. We're a diverse community.
Privacy
No doxxing, sharing private logs, or invading others' privacy. What happens in DM stays there.
No Spam / Flood
Excessive messaging, channel flooding, or advertising without permission is prohibited.
Bots & Scripts
Bot registration required. No malicious bots, drones, or disruptive scripts.
Impersonation
Impersonating staff or other users is strictly forbidden and will result in a permanent ban.
Illegal Content
No discussion or sharing of illegal, explicit, or disturbing content. Zero tolerance policy.
1. User Conduct
- Be civil: Treat others as you would like to be treated. Disagreements are fine, but keep it respectful.
- No offensive nicknames/nicks: Nicknames containing slurs, hateful terms, or impersonation of staff are not allowed.
- No inappropriate content: Discussion or sharing of illegal, explicit, or disturbing material is forbidden.
- Channel wars: Deliberate disruption of other channels (mass invites, trolls) will result in a network ban.
- Harassment: Any form of harassment, bullying, or targeting of other users will result in immediate action.
2. Server & Services
- Services usage: NickServ registration is required for persistent identity. Do not share accounts.
- Resource usage: Do not abuse server resources with excessive CTCP, DCC spam, or connection flooding.
- Proxy/VPN: Allowed, but if used for evasion of bans or abusive behavior, they will be blocked.
- Bots: Must be identified via BotServ and have a contact handle. Idle bots may be killed.
- Multiple connections: Excessive connections from a single IP may be limited to prevent abuse.
3. Channel Operation
- Founder rights: Channel founders (registered with ChanServ) have final say in their channel, provided it doesn't violate network policy.
- Official channels (#SkyChatz, #help etc): Guided by network staff; follow operator directions.
- No takeovers: Attempts to deop or hijack registered channels will be met with a global ban.
- NSFW channels: Must have +s (secret) mode and clear warning in topic. No underage users.
- Channel bans: Channel operators may ban users from their channels for violations of channel rules.
4. Privacy & Data Protection
- Personal information: Do not share personal information of others without explicit consent.
- Logs: Sharing private chat logs without consent is prohibited.
- Data retention: IP addresses and connection logs are stored for up to 30 days for security purposes.
- Data deletion: Users may request data deletion by contacting staff in #help.
Enforcement & Penalties
Violations may result in warnings, temporary mutes, channel bans, or network-wide k-line (ban). Severe cases (harassment, doxxing, illegal content) lead to immediate permanent ban without prior warning. Appeals can be sent to #help or via email.
Note: Staff actions are logged and reviewed. Abusive staff will be removed. All decisions are final but appealable.
Privacy & Data Retention
- IP Addresses: We store IP addresses and connection logs for up to 30 days for security (abuse investigation).
- Data Sharing: We do not sell or share personal data. Channel logs are not stored permanently.
- Registration Data: Services (NickServ) hold registration email; never publicly visible.
- Data Deletion: Request for data deletion: contact an administrator in #help.
- Security: All connections are encrypted using SSL/TLS. We use industry-standard security practices.
Historical Charter (founded 2004)
These original ideals still guide us:
2004: The friendly frontier
"A place where everyone feels welcome" – no elitism, just good conversation.
2008: Open source ethos
Encourage scripts, bots and tools as long as they don't harm the network.
2026: Modernized policy
Updated to cover new threats (doxxing, crypto scams) while keeping the original spirit.
By connecting, you agree
Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse. Staff decisions are final but appealable. We reserve the right to update these policies; check #announcements for changes.
