Is SkyChatz free to use?

Yes! SkyChatz is completely free for all users. We're community-supported and committed to keeping IRC accessible to everyone.

What are the network rules?

How do I report a problem or abuse?

When was SkyChatz founded?

How do I connect to SkyChatz?

You can connect using any IRC client to irc.skychatz.org on port 6667 (plain) or 6697 (SSL). You can also use our WebIRC client directly in your browser.

What IRC clients do you recommend?

Popular clients include: mIRC (Windows), HexChat (Windows/Linux), Textual (Mac), WeeChat (terminal), and IRCCloud (web/mobile). Visit our User Guides page for more options.

Do you support SSL/TLS encryption?

Yes! Connect using SSL on port 6697 for encrypted communication. We strongly recommend using SSL to protect your connection.

What ports does SkyChatz use?

We support multiple ports for connection: 6667 (plain), 6697 (SSL), and 7000 (SSL alternative). Choose the port that works best for your network configuration.

Why can't I connect?

If you're having connection issues, check that you're using the correct server address irc.skychatz.org and port. Firewall or ISP restrictions may also be blocking IRC traffic. Try using the WebIRC client as an alternative.

How do I register my nickname?

Use the command: /msg NickServ REGISTER password youremail@example.com. You'll receive instructions to verify your email. After verification, use /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password to identify.

How do I register a channel?

First, join the channel you want to register (e.g., /join #newchannel). Then type: /msg ChanServ REGISTER #newchannel description. You'll become the channel founder.

I forgot my NickServ password. What do I do?

Use /msg NickServ SENDPASS yournickname to receive a password reset email. If you need further assistance, join #help and speak with staff.

What is a vHost and how do I get one?

A vHost (virtual host) replaces your IP address in the hostmask with a custom hostname. Request one with /msg HostServ REQUEST your.vhost.com. Requests are subject to approval by staff.

How do I send a memo?

Use /msg MemoServ SEND nickname message to send a memo. The recipient will receive it the next time they log in. Use /msg MemoServ LIST to read your memos.

What are the main channels?

How do I become a channel operator?

Channel operators are appointed by the channel founder. If you're interested in helping manage a channel, contact the founder or use /msg ChanServ INFO #channel to see who the founder is.

What channel modes are available?

Common channel modes include: +t (topic only ops), +n (no external messages), +m (moderated), +s (secret), +k (key required), and +i (invite only).

Can I create my own channel?

Yes! Any user can create a channel by joining it (/join #yourchannel). To register it permanently, use /msg ChanServ REGISTER #yourchannel description.

Can I run a bot on SkyChatz?

Yes, but bots must be registered with BotServ. Use /msg BotServ REGISTER yourbot password description. Bots must follow network rules and not be used for malicious purposes.

What is the proxy scanner bot?

The proxy scanner bot runs in #proxy and allows you to check IP addresses for proxy detection, blacklist status (DroneBL), and geolocation. Use !ipw <IP> to check an IP.

Is my data safe on SkyChatz?

Yes! We use SSL/TLS encryption for all connections. We do not sell or share personal data. IP addresses and connection logs are stored for up to 30 days for security purposes only.

How do I protect my nickname?

Register your nickname with NickServ and always identify when you connect. Use a strong password and never share it with anyone. Enable the KILL option to prevent others from using your nickname.

What should I do if I'm being harassed?

If you're experiencing harassment, use /ignore nickname to block the user. Report the issue to staff in #help or use the Contact Us form. Provide logs if possible.

How does SkyChatz handle DDoS attacks?

SkyChatz has multiple layers of DDoS protection in place, including rate limiting, traffic filtering, and redundant server infrastructure. Our staff monitors traffic 24/7 to respond to any threats.
