About SkyChatz Network — Free IRC Chat Since 2004

"Where connection never goes out of style."

SkyChatz Network is a free, community-driven Internet Relay Chat (IRC) network that has been running continuously since January 2004. Founded in the heart of the digital wild west of the early 2000s, SkyChatz began as a humble IRC space where friendship, creativity, and late-night conversations collided. What started as a simple hangout grew into a vibrant community powered by passion, pixels, and the people who made it unforgettable — and today, more than twenty years later, it remains one of the longest-running independent IRC networks in the world.

What Is SkyChatz?

SkyChatz is a modern IRC network built on UnrealIRCd and SkyServ (SkyChatz Services). Unlike social media platforms that own your content and track your behaviour, SkyChatz is an open, decentralised chat system. Your identity is your nickname, your privacy is protected by default, and your conversations happen in real time with real people.

Users connect through any standard IRC client — mIRC, HexChat, WeeChat, KVIrc, Textual, or IRCCloud — or through the built-in SkyChatz WebChat directly in a browser. The network supports SSL/TLS encryption on port 6697, host cloaking by default, NickServ for nickname registration, ChanServ for channel management, MemoServ for offline messaging, HostServ for custom virtual hosts, and a full suite of community services. Whether you're a long-time IRC user or discovering real-time text chat for the first time, SkyChatz provides a friendly, well-moderated home.

Our Mission

To create safe, expressive digital spaces where connection thrives and nostalgia meets innovation. SkyChatz exists to give people a place to talk freely, respectfully, and without the noise of algorithmic feeds, targeted advertising, or data harvesting. We believe real-time conversation is a public good — and we intend to keep it that way.

Our Legacy and Values

Over two decades, SkyChatz has cultivated a close-knit IRC community, served as a hub for real-time conversations across time zones and languages, and hosted themed events and late-night chats that turned strangers into lifelong friends. The network has survived server migrations, platform shifts, and the rise and fall of countless social networks — always staying true to its roots while embracing modern technology. Today, SkyChatz continues to uphold its legacy of trust, innovation, and operational excellence, honouring its origins while shaping the future of borderless communication.
